Gender in Family
This week we discussed the topic of gender and it's effects of the family. We started with a foundation of data and research. It suggested that there is a difference between men and women. It multiple studies it showed differences. For example they studied babies and the toys they played with. It was controlled. They had traditional boy toys and traditional girl toys, and watched the boys naturally go and play with the trucks, cars, legos, etc. The girls naturally went to barbies and dolls etc. There wasn't any bias, because the babies hadn't yet matured enough for that. As well, the parents were monitored to not influence.
The other study I saw that was interesting was the effect of social media on primarily teens. They had data that showed that young women were affected negatively by social media on a greater level than young men. They were more prone to get anxiety and depression from it than men. Although I don't remember what all the causes were, I know they used it as an argument that boys are different then girls.
With that foundation I think The Family: A Proclamation to The World teaches it best when it gives us what the roles of the father and the mother are. We as men have divine roles because of who we are. Women have different roles because of who they are. Studies have shown that when the father and the mother work in unity with their different but equally important roles the results are better.
For example there were studies done that were pretty bold that brought out results of the family. In a variety of situations. For example it showed that children who were raised by both a mom and dad that were married showed less chance of drug use, and not just drug use but a ton. It was interesting, because it every area of more than 15 it was the same result. The researcher who put the data together ended up getting a lot of death threats. Obviously he felt it was important to share or probably wouldn't have I would assume.
My take away this week was to just do what God teaches. He taught us that Marriage is between and man and a women. For a reason. Maybe It is simple to me because I have never dealt with these problems. I don't really relate to others who deal with these problems. However I know where I can put my trust, where I can focus the direction of my life, so that it can be the most abundant as possible. Not only for me but for my children as well.
